How to Wake Up Without Coffee (Yes, It's Possible)

Coffee is great. These powerful beans can be made into all kinds of fun, sweet, drinks to get you up and out the door. But why limit yourself to coffee? Caffeine gets the job done, but it can sometimes make us jittery and even worse, crash later on. Here are some alternatives we love to get us ready for the day.

Squeeze that carrot.

Okay, this one looks like orange juice but don't be fooled! A lot of us may think it's impossible to get juice out of a vegetable, but trust us, it can be done. Carrots are not only healthy for your skin, teeth and eyes, but they give you a burst of energy. (Think, why do so many rabbits eat them?) Even mix up your favorite juices for a potpourri of energy!

Blend it on up.

Some smoothies can be super sugary and therefore give you the false sense of energy that comes with a sugar high, so check out these recipes that involve some of the healthiest, most vibrant ingredients. The great thing about smoothies is you can customize them any way you want, depending on the benefits you find most useful. Add protein, whey, or soy to give it an extra kick!

Beware of evil energy drinks.

We know you've maybe snuck an energy drink or two while pulling an all-nighter. But we warn you to check the ingredients on these things! Our motto is, if you can't pronounce it, chuck it. Try these natural energy drinks instead.

Naturalize your fridge.

Energy is all around us. Almonds, eggs, avocados, and spinach are all natural ingredients that we can incorporate into our breakfasts before we get out and go.

Skip the sugar.

Avoid artificial sugars and especially sugar substitutes! These may give you a burst of energy at first, but they'll almost always make you crash later in the day.

Get that blood pumping.

First thing in the morning, you'll be tempted to hit the snooze. You've heard the tip of putting your alarm clock on the other side of the room, which forces you to get up. We suggest starting the day off with a few stretches and jumping jacks.

Prepare for the polar dip.

Taking a cold shower might be the oldest trick in the book for getting energized. But even a quick splash of cold water on your face will do the trick.

Take a caffeine cleanse and get energized for real!
