5 Steps to Gorgeous Skin This Summer

Summer is finally here, so go ahead and shed those extra layers. But for some of us, before we bare all, we have to do some summer skin touch-ups. We're talking, body acne. Trust us, it's not just you. It may seem hard to get body acne under control, but the good news is it's totally avoidable and treatable. Just follow these 5 steps and you'll be strutting with confidence this summer.

Change Your Sheets.

Acne occurs when bacteria, dead skin cells and oil gets into your pores, and dead skin cells love to live in your bed sheets. So make sure you wash your sheets frequently to reduce your contact with acne-causing agents. Your skin naturally produces oil and bacteria, so your best bet is to eliminate the dead skin variable.

Exfoliate.

Exfoliating is an even more crucial way to eliminate the "dead skin variable" than keeping your sheets clean. I find the easiest way to exfoliate my body and face is with my Proactiv+ Deep Cleansing Wash. Plus, it fits right in your gym bag. If you love multi-purpose products, this one's a must-have. When I'm in a bind, I use their spot treatment on my body.

Shower Immediately Post-Workout.

Sweat can also produce breakouts, even for those of us who aren't acne-prone. After a sweat-intensive Hot Yoga session or spin class, rinse off with body wash before you go about your day. It's a good idea to get your hands on an acne-fighting body wash. My favorite is Proactiv+'s Deep Cleansing Wash.

Use Benzoyl Peroxide.

Body acne isn't any different than facial acne, except there are other factors such as tight clothing and sweating that can exacerbate it. Benzoyl peroxide is a fast-acting, powerful treatment that kills acne-causing bacteria. It only takes a day or two to clear up my skin. It's a great tool to have in your skincare toolbox.

Don't Forget the Sunscreen.

While you may be anxiously awaiting that summer tan, it's important to lather up -- in sunscreen, that is. It's ideal to find a non-greasy formula that won't clog your pores. Don't shy away from sunscreen because you think it will irritate your skin. Eliminating body acne is just one way to prep your skin for this summer -- preventing sun damage is another.
