At First I Was Skeptical But Customized Hair Care Changed My Life

I’ve probably spent thousands of dollars on my hair throughout my life. From Japanese straightening that was trendy a decade ago, balayage to the unicorn hair all over social media—I’ve tried it all.

My hair has always been the creative outlet I use to express myself for all purposes whether it be as a reward, as a coping mechanism for heartbreak, or just as something to do when I’m bored.

Needless to say, my hair’s been through a lot over the years. I dye and perm my hair less frequently nowadays and thus, can no longer hide my damaged ends with bleach and color. And now that I’ve stopped perming my hair, I have to deal with just how frizzy it naturally is.

The past year has been a miserable learning process of trial and error. I learned what my hair likes and dislikes, that I can only wash my hair in the morning, that I can’t use heat or sleep with wet hair without waking up looking like a Wookie, and that I can only sleep on satin pillowcases to tame my frizz.

I also learned that the more natural the product, the better my hair feels. Not only do my products have to be mostly natural, sulfate free and non-toxic, they also have to be within my budget, easily accessible, and meant to treat the long-winded combination of issues specific to my hair.

This combo is basically impossible to find, so I felt like my hair would be doomed forever. That all changed when my friend told me about Function of Beauty, which creates personalized shampoo and conditioner based on your hair needs.

I started with their quiz which asked me about my hair type and let me choose five different hair goals. That’s four more than so many other products I’ve tried! I was also able to choose a fragrance and color for my shampoo and conditioner. And the best part?

The bottles are customizable and would have my name displayed for everyone (especially my roommates) to know that these are products for my hair, and my hair only.

I got to pick between various bottle sizes and bundles ranging from $36 to $49. They also offer a subscription so I wouldn’t forget my formula or have to worry about refills.

They’re automatically shipped to me based on how often I need them – if its every two months or three.

Since I started using my Function shampoo and conditioner, my hair has improved almost immediately. Finally, I have a hair care formula that was meant just for me!

Compared to hair products I’ve tried in the past, Function of Beauty has proven to actually do what it says it’s going to do–it’s made my hair look and feel better–at a fraction of the cost of salon-sold products.

My hair is shiny, soft, and sleek, and my entire experience with them has been so seamless (free shipping and returns!) and I can really tell that they care about their customers.

It feels great knowing that this company caters their products to all different hair types while staying 100% vegan and cruelty-free. Now that’s something I can get behind!
