I Was So Tired Of Hearing About Meal Kits, But I Gave One A Shot.

Any mom with young kids knows how hard dinnertime can be.

I don't have hours to spend making extravagant recipes because I'm always helping the kids with something or cleaning up after them, so I like to stick to easy recipes I know.

But lately, Sarah refuses to eat roast dinners anymore and Malcolm has gone off my go-to pasta recipe.

I needed to find a convenient way to cook new recipes, but I didn't have time to scour the internet for recipes and search for ingredients I wasn't familiar with.

When asking my friend Rebecca for advice, she recommended I try EveryPlate, a meal kit delivery service. I had heard about meal kits but didn't think they'd be enough for families, and I doubted it would be affordable.

Rebecca told me EveryPlate is the most affordable meal kit with meals starting from just $4.99 per plate at full price, and they have a special offer for new customers right now. This piqued my interest so I thought I'd look into it.

How it works is, EveryPlate has a weekly rotating menu with 14 new recipes each week as well as add-ons, so there are always new recipes to try. This could be exactly what we needed, but I still wasn't sure if it would be right for us.

When I saw that their subscription is flexible and I could cancel or skip at any time, along with being able to customize our menu each week, I decided to give EveryPlate a shot. The shipment took only a few days to arrive, and when I opened the box I was impressed with the quality of the ingredients and how fresh everything was.

I was worried about cooking recipes I'd never cooked before. Each meal with EveryPlate comes with an easy-to-follow recipe card with just 6 simple steps. Plus, the ingredients come pre-portioned so there's minimal prep involved.

First up was Sweet Potato & Pepper Quesadillas. I've never made anything Mexican before, but thanks to the recipe cards it was super easy. I wasn't sure how the kids would feel about it though, but I was surprised to see that everyone cleaned their plates. The salsa has just the right level of spiciness- not too spicy for the kids.

The standout recipe of the week was Pork Chops & Jalapeño Gravy. The kids loved it; even though Sarah had gotten tired of my usual pork chop recipe, she ate the whole thing right up this time. My personal favorite is the Crispy Italian Chicken. All the meals are super quick to make, taking only 30 minutes on average, and the quality never disappoints.

We're on our fourth week of EveryPlate and I'm so glad I signed up. If you're thinking of trying a meal kit, I'd highly recommended EveryPlate. Plan options include 3, 4, or 5, meals per week for 2 or 4 people, and there are always great recipes on the menu.

The recipes are delicious, affordable and most importantly- kid-approved!
