We Compared And Contrasted Lash Growth Products — Here's What We Learned.
Natural vs. Chemical, Results vs. Talk
Everyone wants long, luxurious lashes. But at what cost?
Can you lengthen or re-grow your lashes safely and effectively? Chemical lash enhancers can cause inflammation, irritation, and long-term side effects such as permanently darkened eyelids or discoloration of the iris.
With an endless sea of products on the market claiming to be the most effective, it's hard to find an eyelash enhancer that actually works. Not every serum stacks up against the competition or lives up to its claims, so our editors focused on identifying products with beneficial, high-quality ingredients.
In our quest for fuller, longer-looking lashes, we narrowed the field to 4 popular eyelash boosters: Latisse, Vegamour, Revitalash and REALASH.
Here's what we discovered:
Latisse
Available only through prescription, Latisse is FDA approved for the treatment of eyelash hypotrichosis. However, alarm bells went off loud and clear when we read "see important safety information" prominently displayed on their site.
And like Pandora and the box - we had to see what potential hazards await . . .
There was a lengthy list of scary warnings. Latisse contains bimatoprost, which has been reported to cause skin darkening to the tissues around the eyes and eyelashes - which they advise may be reversible.
What freaked us out the most was: "Please be advised of the potential for increased brown iris pigmentation, which is likely to be permanent"!?!?!! Meaning the actual color of your eyes could change from green to brown for the rest of your life.
We didn't care if they were giving this away. We stopped scrolling right then.
Vegamour
Vegan & Non-Toxic Lash Growth
Clinically Proven To Work
Try it today
Vegamour
VegaLASH Volumizing Serum stood out because it's vegan and non-toxic, and contains no hormones or carcinogens. Vegamour's natural, plant-based solutions come with no unexpected and dangerous side effects. Unlike the other 3 brands, Vegamour is completely transparent about its ingredients - a very big plus.
But does VegaLASH work? Yes! Clinical studies support oodles of positive customer reviews. In fact, one of our editors used Vegamour and swore she saw steady eyelash growth after just 2 weeks! In fact, a clinical trial with competitors showed that VegaLASH delivers 94% more lash density and volume, and their lashes are 34% longer-looking than other brands.
A safe and effective eyelash enhancer has got to cost a pretty penny, right? No. At $59.95 for a one time-purchase, it's a steal! Vegamour's subscription plan ships to your doorstep every 2 months, so you'll never forget to refill your stash. Plus, as a subscriber, you get extra savings at 25% off! You can also cancel or reschedule anytime.
RevitaLash
The backstory for RevitaLash is touching - a physician created it for his wife, so she felt more beautiful during her struggle with breast cancer - she's since recovered.
RevitaLash Advanced Eyelash Conditioner & Serum is moderately priced - one tube can last for 3+ months. It's moderately priced at $55 for the trial size. However, RevitaLash Advanced contains the prostaglandin analogue DDDE. While prostaglandins are "natural" chemicals found in the body, when artificially deposited in the eye, they may cause irritation. And then what do you do? Rub your eyes, leading to more lashes to fall out.
But the absolute scariest is that prostaglandins may produce additional melanin in the iris. Love your eye color? That might change when you use a lash product with prostaglandin. The stimulation of melanin in and around the eye area may alter the color of your iris - that's the colored part of your eye. This discoloration may even affect the eyelid and surrounding skin as well, creating a dark or red pigment.
REALASH
Orphica's REALASH Eyelash Essentials talk the talk, claiming that in 30 days your lashes will be fuller and longer. And the before-and-after photos certainly looked convincing.
However, with a little digging, we found a scenario similar to Latisse's suspect ingredients. The worst one is Phenoxyethanol, which is used to prolong the product's shelf life and can cause skin and lung irritation.
Granted, it's only a teeny percentage of the things that go into REALASH, but the European Commission on cosmetic ingredients states that Phenoxyethanol is toxic when applied to the lips or around the mouth. And we're supposed to use this product on our eyes?
Oh, and another red flag: Some customers have noticed a slight darkening at the base of their eyelashes where they apply REALASH. The company states that it's normal and disappears with time. Really, REALASH? Bye-bye.
Overall Verdict
We gotta admit, we're loving Vegamour's natural approach. We're so relieved that it's not harmful and it genuinely works! High-quality, vegan, toxin-free, and people see a 94% increase in volume over competitors - that's double the volume and density! That was the clincher for us.
Get lush lash results in just 30 days with VegaLASH. It can be your secret eyelash weapon.
